What laws are regarding the speed limits on Romanian roads?

The maximum speed is: 50km / h in town, 130 km / h on motorways, 100 km / h on express / European and 90 km / h in other cases. Exceeding the max speed with over 50 km / h  attracts a fine of 9-20 pts (945-2100 RON + suspension of driving license for 90 days); 41-50 km / h attracts a fine of 9-20 pts (945-2100 RON + 6 pts penalty); 31-40 km / h attract fine of 6 to 8 pts(630-840 RON + 4 pts penalty, 21-30 km / h attracts a fine of 4 to 5 pts (420-525RON + 3 pts penalty)

Regarding children under 12 years of age or a height of less than 150 cm, the child seat is  compulsory. It must be authorized and adapted to both height and weight of the child. Children under 12 years and animals are not allowed to occupy the front seat.

The drivers of vehicles and people occupying any set designed with a safety belt or a safety device must wear the safety belt during the drive on the road, except for those who have a medical certificate referring to a condition that would contraindicate wearing a seat belt and all women in a visible state of pregnancy.

Dipped beam or the road lights are recommended both in cities and outside them, adjusted to the brightness of the road. However, they are mandatory both during the day and night when the car is on highways, expressways or on European roads.

The driver is allowed to use a mobile phone only via handsfree or headphones. Any other use of the mobile phone while driving is prohibited.

In cities, it is advisable to pay particular attention to vulnerable participants such as cyclists, motorcyclists, teamsters and other drivers who have a limited share in traffic. Care must be taken when turning right in cases where both cars and cyclists / teamsters or others from the same direction share the traffic light.
